From the Director

Welcome to the Union County Band of Braves! The instrumental program is centered around the 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7/8 Grade Band and the UCHS Concert Band but offers other means for participation and high achievement in performance. Some of these methods include participation in the Union County Marching Band of Braves, small ensembles, and the Union County Pep Band. Opportunities for students also exist through outside organizations such as KMEA's All-District Honor Band, Kentucky All-State Band, KMEA Solos and Ensembles, and Murray State University's Quad State Event.

The Union County instrumental program has created a legacy of excellence over the past several years through achievement at KMEA assessment events and student participation in honor bands. The high school Concert Band has received distinguished ratings at the KMEA Concert Festival Assessment Event and has achieved a distinguished rating at the KMEA state-level assessment event in previous years. The Marching Band has been a semi-finalist at the KMEA SMBC and broke a school record of placing 11th in the state for class 2A in 2018. In previous years, both the Brass and Percussion ensembles have received distinguished ratings at Solo & Ensemble events along with middle and high school student soloists.

At Union County, we value work ethic, dedication, responsibility, initiative, self-discipline, willingness to learn, and team effort from students, boosters, and staff. The success of our program stems from these characteristics along with full participation from each member and could not have been accomplished in their absence. Our students are expected to set and reach high goals for themselves and by doing so, grow musically, emotionally, mentally, and socially. We strive to offer experiences that will shape each student into a self-sufficient musician and individual while creating a fun and positive environment for students and parents to create lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.
