Director of Bands
Joel Hettenhausen, better known as “Mr. H”, is a 2014 graduate of Murray State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and is currently working towards a Masters Degree in Music Education from the same university. During his time at Murray State University, Mr. H has performed with multiple ensembles including the Jazz Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Racerband, Orchestra, and Slide Advantage jazz trombone ensemble along with performing in local bands and multiple MSU Campus Lights Productions. Through his participation in these ensembles, he has performed in multiple states including Alabama, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana and New York as well as had the opportunity to perform with professional musicians such as Alan Vizzutti, Dr. Sim Flora, Jamey Abersold, Harry Watters, and Jimmy Walker. While working at Union County Public Schools, he has participated in the Madisonville Glema Mahr Center for the Arts productions of “Oliver” and “9 to 5”.
Mr. H previously held the position of Middle School and High School Choir Director, Drama Director, and Assistant Director of Bands at Union County Middle School and Union County High School. Under his direction, both the UCMS 7th/8th Grade Choir and UCHS Concert Choir received distinguished ratings at the KMEA Choral Concert Festival. While acting as Drama Director, the UCHS Drama Department put on musicals including “Jekyll and Hyde,” “Annie,” and “Legally Blonde.” He took over the position of Director of Bands in the Summer of 2019 where he now directs the UCMS and UCHS concert bands, jazz band, percussion ensemble, pep band, and Marching Band of Braves.
