Module Diagnostic reports
After the module is made visible in the VLE by the Instructional Design Officer and the offer is opened by the Scheduler, the Instructional Design team carries out passive monitoring to detect any errors that may have occurred during the duplication process. This step focuses specifically on verifying assessment deadlines and technical settings that could impact the start of student engagement.
Sequence of Tasks:
The ID Offcer checks that all assessment deadlines have transferred correctly into Moodle
Identify any missing, duplicated, or incorrect deadlines
Correct errors directly in the VLE or escalate issues to the technical team
Monitor for critical technical misconfigurations such as hidden assignments or incorrect submission settings
Involved Parties: Instructional Design Officer, Instructional Design Manager, Scheduler
Quantitative and qualitative data are collected to evaluate module effectiveness and user experience. This informs long-term development decisions.
Sequence of Tasks:
Every 6 months, Data Analysts extract data from Moodle to generate a Module Diagnostic Report for each module. Report includes:
Student logins and participation rates
Task completion data
Time-on-task analysis
Assessment performance patterns
Dropout points and pacing irregularities
Simultaneously, feedback is gathered via:
Student Feedback Questionnaire
Tutor Feedback Questionnaire
Results are collated, reviewed, and compared with diagnostic data to triangulate patterns and concerns
Involved Parties: Data Analyst, ID Manager
Useful Tools: Module Diagnostic Report, Google Forms (Feedback Questionnaires)
Synthesise findings from diagnostics and feedback to form a structured set of improvement recommendations for the module’s next iteration.
Sequence of Tasks:
Review and discuss diagnostic results and feedback summaries
Identify key improvement areas:
Instructional clarity or sequencing
Assessment design or difficulty
Interactivity or media quality
Engagement and pacing issues
Log findings in the Module Enhancement Log
Draft recommendations for redevelopment or enhancement, prioritised by impact
Implement urgent changes if module will be re-offered soon
Involved Parties: ID Manager, School Dean
