The role of the Career Development Center in Higher Education is as a bridge between the world of education and the world of work, conducting education and career training, providing employment information for graduates, providing information on the whereabouts of graduates after completing education (Tracer Study).
Tracer Study as one of the activities in the Career Development Center where according to the Ministry of Education and Culture (2021) the online tracer study of Dikti is intended to trace the traces of graduates / alumni carried out 2 years after graduation and aims to find out: a. Educational outcomes in the form of a transition from higher education to the world of work (including the waiting period for work and the first job search process), the last job situation, and the application of competencies in the world of work. b. The output of education is self-assessment of mastery and acquisition of competence. c. The educational process is in the form of evaluating the learning process and the contribution of higher education to the acquisition of competence. The results of the tracer study will help PT in knowing the position of graduates who have been absorbed in the world of work and prepare graduates according to the competencies needed in the world of work. The results of the tracer study which are then reported to Dikti will assist the Government's program in mapping the needs of the world of work with the development of education in Indonesia.
The alumni tracking or Tracer Study conducted by the University of Jember in the last two years has experienced a significant increase, after previously it was very difficult to reach the target to contact and ask alumni to fill out the Tracer Study questionnaire. The existence of the strength of the alumni information network is expected to synergize with the success of the Career Development Center activities, especially Tracer Study. The success of tracking alumni will also help the University in achieving the Main Performance Indicator (IKU) 1 State Universities, namely Graduates getting decent jobs.

Universities need to carry out tracer studies because they need feedback from alumni in their efforts to improve education systems and management. Universities at the beginning of the academic year determine the direction of higher education policies from input in the form of conditions, experiences, and motivations of new students who enter the university. Enter the conditions, experiences and motivations that determine universities in implementing education systems and management in terms of patterns/processes of teaching and learning, research, practicum, workshops, laboratories, studios or research. The implementation of this teaching and learning system will also be influenced by the education policy set by the university.
In 2019 the University of Jember has conducted a tracer study for students who graduated in 2017. Meanwhile, in 2020, the University of Jember again conducted a tracer study for students who graduated in 2019. Unlike the tracer study of the previous year, the tracer study in 2021 uses a tracer instrument. study 2021 with the target of alumni in 2020 (1 year cohort). The implementation of the tracer study from 2021 involved 83 surveyors from representatives of each faculty with the number varying from 3 people per faculty to 6 people. This tracer study was conducted online. Information dissemination to alumni about link addresses for filling out tracer studies is done via email and social media. Next, the alumni open the link address, namely https://sister.unej.ac.id/alumni, fill in the data requested in the link. The link above contains a list of questions about personal data, first job search, continuing further studies or entrepreneurship. In addition, it also contains questions about the teaching and learning process while studying at the University of Jember.
This activity was attended by leaders of LP3M, Career Development Center, and 83 surveyor students. Surveyor representatives from each faculty reported the progress made in contacting alumni. Each surveyor experienced almost the same problem, namely the difficulty of contacting alumni because the cellphone number could not be contacted and the alumni did not respond when contacted. Several ways have been taken, such as finding alumni contacts through their social media and contacting alumni groups. This method is considered quite effective in contacting alumni. And the most important thing is to ensure alumni to fill out all questionnaires so that the data becomes valid when uploaded to the Tracer Study Dikti.

Tracer Study or what is often referred to as an alumni survey or a "follow-up" survey is a study of graduates of higher education institutions. This study is able to provide a variety of useful information for the purposes of evaluating the results of higher education and can then be used to improve and guarantee the quality of the higher education institution concerned. Tracer Study is also useful in providing important information regarding the relationship between higher education and the world of professional work, assessing the relevance of higher education, information for stakeholders, and completeness of requirements for higher education accreditation. Tracer Study for the University of Jember itself has several important objectives in its implementation. Those goals include:
knowing the existence of Jember University alumni after graduating from college.
build an alumni database.
identify the competency profile of alumni.
know the relevance of the implementation of the curriculum to the needs of the job market.
meet the BAN-PT accreditation criteria.
Meanwhile, specifically for the purpose of the 2020 Tracer Study socialization activity, this is none other than to provide good socialization to all recipients of the 2020 tracer study scholarship, namely students from the Faculty of Law, FISIP, Faculty of Agriculture, FEB, FKIP, FIB, FTP, FKG, MIPA, FK, FKM, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Information Systems and Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy where the intended target is alumni from each study program. As for the recipients of working scholarships in 2020, there are 83 students who are tasked with appealing to 5,133 alumni, with updated data as of June 16, 2020, as many as 366 alumni who have filled in. Of course, it is hoped that the achievement of this target will continue to increase, so that it can be well recorded in Belmawa Dikti for the study tracer process in 2020.
