I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a nurse but little did I know how much it would change me. I graduated from McMaster University with my BScN in 2007. I worked full-time as a Cardiac Surgical nurse and truly enjoyed the fast-paced, stressful environment. I became interested in mentoring new staff and fulfilling Charge Nurse responsibilties, looking for improvement opporunities that would benefit staff and patients.
In 2020, after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, I realized I wanted to enter into formal leadership. I decided to apply to UNE at this time, knowing that my experience was not enough alone. The courses allowed for immediate applicability as I started my Clincal Leader and Clincal Manager roles while working through my Masters of Heathcare Administration program.
Even with the completion of my Masters, I will continue to develop and look for opportunities to grow as a leader. I feel that I now have the evidence and theoretical basis to support my career development. My passion for patient care has not waivered over 16 years but I feel like my scope and responsibility as a leader has changed. I am exicted to see what the future holds!
