Program Overview
The Learning, Design, and Technology program at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte strives to develop well-equipped, versatile, and learner-centered Instructional Designers. The program dives into various learning sciences and theories, the history and continuation of instructional design, the integration of technology within education, virtual learning experiences, and multimedia content production. It has a broad grasp of various fields, from corporate enterprises to nonprofit organizations to education. The 33 credit hour M.Ed provides foundational skills and the acquisition of practical skills through interactive learning opportunities. In addition, the program's online platform provides flexibility to full-time workers and adult learners alike.
Training and Development Concentration
The program's adaptability to individual needs is only further exemplified by its three tracked concentration programs, including the school specialist, online learning and teaching, and the training and development concentrations. The training and development concentration focuses on preparing graduates to implement the instructional design process and apply learning and design principles to create various training and learning opportunities. Along with the standard course of study, specific electives and internship opportunities are created to focus on instructional design within corporate settings and electives for students looking to work with adult learners. Electives can be completed within the other concentration areas to create a more well-rounded student for various opportunities after graduation.
My goal in choosing the training and development concentration is to develop into a well-rounded applicant with my background in education and transfer of skills learned within my six years of experience creating educational curricula and resources. My ultimate career goal is to work in academia in an environment that allows me to transition from the classroom. With the education provided through this program, I hope to be a dynamic candidate for corporate positions and settings.Â
