I will be discussing substance use and SUD within the Queer community, options for Queer individuals when seeking SUD treatment, experiences of Queer individuals in SUD treatment, and ways to improve as counselors/treatment centers when working with Queer Clients.
My name is Willough Davis. I have a passion for working with and advocating for individuals with mental health and/or substance use concerns, as well as members of the Queer/LGBTQIA+ community. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate, and National Certified Counselor. I have been in the counseling field for 5 years, working in outpatient addiction treatment centers and private practice. I received my Masters Degree in Counselor Education: Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Clemson University. I am currently a doctoral candidate in the last year of my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at UNC Charlotte. My research primarily surrounds substance use and addiction, as well as the experiences of Queer individuals in substance use disorder treatment.
