In this session participants will learn the culture of meth use among gay men and the implications this growing trend is creating among this population. Additionally, participants will learn unique terminology associated specifically with meth use among gay men as well as cultural influences and belief systems contributing to the explosive growth pattern found among this vulnerable population.
Derrick received his PhD at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His research area is disenfranchised grief experienced by support persons of those living with addiction. He is published and co-authored chapters in the book “Grief Work in Addiction Counseling” as well as articles in both the Journal of Addiction and Offender Counseling and Counseling Today Magazine.
He is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and maintains private practices in Charlotte, NC and Denver, CO. He works with individuals and families living with issues surrounding addiction, grief and loss, LGBTQ issues, trauma, and major life change issues. Additionally, he teaches adjunct at UNC Charlotte and will soon be joining his family and grandkids as a resident of Denver, CO.
