When groups are able to manage conflict effectively, they are able to improve their ability for decision making and positive outcomes. While on the other hand when conflict is managed ineffectively, the productivity of the group declines and dysfunction ensues (Rispens et al., 2021).
Conflict management styles between group members do not have to be the same. Difference in conflict management styles is labeled as "asymmetry" by some scholars and is actually beneficial. Differences allow groups to avoid premature consensuses and group think (Rispens et al., 2021).
