Joan C. Valenciano is a passionate and service-driven Senior High School Teacher at Milaor National High School, specializing in the TVL-Agri-Fishery Arts track with a focus on Food Processing NC II. She is a certified TESDA Trainer, an NC II and TM I holder, and a strong advocate of hands-on, values-based, and competency-driven learning that prepares students for real-world success in the food processing industry.
She completed her basic education at San Jose Elementary School and Milaor National High School, then earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, major in Food Technology. She also pursued the Special Learning Package in Education and completed her Master of Arts in Teaching, major in Technology Education, at BISCAST. Currently, she is completing her Doctor of Education, major in Educational Management, at the University of Nueva Caceres, where she also earned 18 academic units in Social Studies—enabling her to handle Araling Panlipunan during her early years in the profession.
Her first professional work experience was at Shakey’s Pizza Naga, where she began as an On-the-Job Trainee (OJT). Due to her excellent performance and strong work ethic, she was hired immediately upon graduation. This early exposure to customer service, teamwork, and food operations further strengthened her practical knowledge and work discipline—skills she now integrates into her teaching approach.
Joan’s teaching journey began in Bahi National High School, located in a coastal and mountainous area of Garchitorena, Camarines Sur. Reaching the school required traveling across islands and rough terrain, but this challenging environment helped shape her perseverance, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her students—especially those from geographically isolated and economically challenged communities. As Work Immersion Coordinator, she built partnerships with immersion sites such as Tugawe Cove, Traje, and Rebing’s Resort, ensuring that her students gained meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
Now serving at Milaor National High School, she continues to lead the Work Immersion Program for Food Processing students through partnerships like RPM Pili Nuts. She takes pride in her students’ 100% NC II Assessment passing rate for SY 2024–2025 and in launching the school’s Income-Generating Project, Project Flavour, which encourages entrepreneurship and applied learning.
She also has a strong passion for entrepreneurship. She is a registered business owner with a DTI-issued permit and continues to enhance her skills through various trainings. Among the programs she completed are Fruit and Vegetable Dehydration, Business Management Strategies, and Chocolate Making, all conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). These experiences not only strengthen her entrepreneurial knowledge but also enrich her teaching practices, allowing her to provide students with real-life applications of food processing and agribusiness concepts.
A dedicated chess coach and enthusiast, Joan mentored a student who triumphed in the Division Meet and competed in the Bicol Meet. For her, chess reflects life: every decision involves strategy, risk, sacrifice, and trust in divine timing. She believes that while we may not always win, what matters most is learning and growing through the process.
Joan is also active in faith and youth ministry. While teaching in Bahi, she served as a Youth Leader at Divino Rostro Parish, guiding young people to attend the Marian Youth Congress in Naga City, and participating in the Youth Leader Formation of the Archdiocese of Caceres in San Jose, Camarines Sur, under the mentorship of Fr. Marlon and Fr. Paul. Later, she became a Youth Encounter Facilitator and Youth Leader under the guidance of Fr. Mike at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Milaor and led her group to receive the Most Disciplined Delegation Award during the Diocesan Youth Camp in Sipocot, Camarines Sur.
For Joan, serving with the Lord is essential to one’s personal and professional growth. It reminds her to remain humble, to teach with love, and to serve others with a heart full of faith. She gives great value to her family, friends, teachers, and mentors, all of whom have shaped her journey with guidance and inspiration.
Rooted in faith, strengthened by experience, and guided by compassion, Joan C. Valenciano continues to inspire, serve, and empower others—both inside the classroom and in the broader community.
