Blur your background in Google Meet

To help limit distractions in your meeting, you can blur your background. You'll appear clear while everything behind you is blurred. This feature will appear only for eligible devices that meet the technical requirements (You’ll need a 4 core device or higher that supports Hyper-Threading). Background blur is currently not available on Chromebooks.

Important: Sensitive information might be visible when you blur your background.

In a meeting:

  1. On the bottom right, click More

  2. Click Turn on background blur .

Before a meeting:

  1. Go to meet.google.com select the meeting.

  2. On the bottom right of your self view, click Turn on background blur .

  3. Click Join Now.

Blurring your background may slow down your device. You may want to turn this feature off to allow other apps to run faster on your computer.

Tip: To see how you look when you Blur your background, check your self view.

Turn on hardware acceleration

If you’re having trouble using background effects on your supported device, you may need to turn on Chrome hardware acceleration.

Turn on hardware acceleration on Windows or Mac:

  1. On the top right of a Chrome window, click Chrome menu Click Settings.

  2. On the left, next to Advanced, click .

  3. Click System .

  4. Turn on Use hardware acceleration when available.

  5. Restart Chrome.


Filter Background Noise in Meet

Before a video call

  1. Go to meet.google.com select a video call.

  2. Before you join, on the top right, click More options Settings .

  3. Click Audio .

  4. Turn on Noise cancellation.

  5. Click Join now.

In a video call

  1. On the bottom right, click More options Settings .

  2. Click Audio .

  3. Turn on Noise cancellation.

Tip: To check how much noise is cancelled out, next to your self preview at the top right corner of your screen, look at the Voice indicator . The Voice indicator reflects what others may hear. Sounds that are blocked and cannot be heard by others will not move the indicator line.

Visor - extension

Screen dimmer and reading aid, may help with fluency, eye-strain, concentration and comprehension whilst reading.

ll as being a great general purpose screen dimmer, Visor's overlays and point of focus feature may be assistive to users with visual perceptual difficulties such as Dyslexia, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and Visual Stress.

Whilst research shows results vary from person to person, some users may find that the use of overlays can help with fluency, eye-strain, concentration and comprehension whilst reading.

Improve your writing with this Chrome browser extension. Follow the directions to download the extension and begin using it. In addition to highlighting grammar and spelling errors, this add-on also provides suggestions for improving the clarity of wording. Other features include highlighting sentence length variations, passive voice, and more.

Virtual Nerd (6 - Algebra) Video

This site provides a daily "wonder" in the form of a question for students to think about. Parents and teachers can choose a topic by category or by day. Each question is accompanied by a video, questions to think about, links and activities that students can do. Click on the "Wonders" link to see a list of archived daily "wonders."


These daily wonders are perfect to use while students are waiting for homeroom to begin. You could have them projected on a whiteboard for students to work on. Use these for an enrichment/curiosity center. They are perfect for the gifted student who finishes his work early. Use the provided vocabulary in your language arts or science curriculum. Place this link on your webpage for parents to use at home. In addition, this site would be a great place for students to go for science fair ideas or research project ideas.
