First Semester Experience

First Semester Experience (FSE)

Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) serve as part of the support team for the First Semester Experience (FSE) course. PALs will attend class weekly to provide a student perspective. They act as an additional resource for questions regarding the FSE course, navigating UMKC systems and resources, and developing college skills.

Each student enrolled in FSE is connected with an Assigned Peer Academic Leader to meet with throughout the semester. FSE student should complete at least three PAL Meetings as a required component of the course. Additional Meetings and Workshops can count as Engagement Experience Electives.

Note: If you enrolled in FSE and also are part of another program (Bloch Scholars, KC Scholars, Provisional Admission, etc.) your PAL Meeting requirements may overlap. Ex: If you are a KC Scholar required to complete five meetings you will have three graded meetings for FSE requirements as well as two additional meetings to meet your scholarship program requirements.
