Fostering Co-creation in your Walk with Ease class

Co-creation mindset

With a co-creation mindset, need is identified and affirmed by the community; participants identify what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. A co-creation approach keeps the program relevant and responsive, and provides some protection from biases and inequities that "canned" curricula are prone to. Shared decision-making is embedded in the process and measures and systems of measurement (e.g. evaluation activities) are respectful and meaningful for the community.

Inviting Participants to Contribute

Invite participants to lead

Providing opportunities for participants to lead parts of the Walk with Ease class is a great way to put the participants front and center. Invite their participation early and often to foster ownership in the program.

Being a responsive facilitaror

Take their lead

Responding to participants' thoughts and questions by bringing new materials, providing training and facilitating discussion, lets them know they are heard and their interests are valued.

Let go of the lead

Stepping back and letting go can be hard when you're usually the one in charge! If participants have skills, interests, or ideas, Walk with Ease classes are great times for them to share and lead!
