The idea of hosting USSS-TC originated in 2020 by Dr. Rebecca (Becky) Rodríguez, an alumna of Dr. Christy L. Haynes’ research group at the University of Minnesota (UMN). As part of Dr. Haynes anti-racism action group, they organized the first symposium from 2021 to 2023 to provide underrepresented students in the Twin-Cities the platform and resources to find success in the sciences. This year, the UMN National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) Student Chapter will host USSS-TC to continue its efforts in providing support and mentorship within our community.
This day would not have been possible without the help of many people, such as: volunteer graduate students, Mollie Dunlap, the Chemistry Accounting Department, and our sponsors ACS MN local section, 3M, Huntington Bank, Chemical Engineering and Material Science, and Material Research Science and Engineering Center.
