Will the UDAC competition be held in person this year?
Due to COVID-19, the UDAC competition will be held completely online over Zoom
I'm not a statistics major, can I still join?
Yes! The great thing about UDAC is that it brings together people from different colleges from CSE to CLA. Anyone who shares a love for data science is welcome and encouraged to join!
If I don't have a team, will this negatively affect me?
No! We understand that not everyone may want to work with the team, and for those that do we will have meetings for students to meet each other and possibly form teams. Although, judges will consider the evaluation of team work in your presentation, this will not be applied to you if you're not working with a team.
Do I have to pay money to enter UDAC?
No, UDAC is completely free of charge.
When does registration for UDAC open and how do I register?
Registration opens March 24th. You can register at anytime from this point onwards, but we highly encourage you to register ASAP. To register, fill out this form which is for both teams and students working individually.
I've only taken the intro statistics classes offered so far. Is this enough to enter?
There is no minimum requirement of statistical background to enter UDAC. As long as you are interested and willing to learn, we strongly encourage you to enter. It is expected that you have some knowledge from introductory statistics classes to understand the requirements of the competition. In the judges' evaluation process, we do also put emphasis on communication/presentation so it is not a given that those who have taken more statistics classes will do better. The statistics club board will additionally provide a plethora of resources regarding classification mechanisms, data cleaning and visualization, etc. so it's highly reccomended those who are unfamiliar with these concepts watch the videos.
