Assignment checklists support students with writing assignments by drawing their attention to key disciplinary conventions and core assignment requirements. By making expectations transparent and explicit, checklists promote student learning and advance equity across students with a range of writing experiences in their majors and programs. At the same time, checklists save time and reduce faculty workload by proactively addressing common missteps and reducing submission errors.
This workshop will present strategies for developing and implementing checklists in the classroom. Faculty who do not currently use checklists will leave the workshop with a new draft they can use in their assignments. Faculty who already use checklists will explore new strategies for helping students to use them effectively.
Facilitated by Jessa Wood, Assistant Director, Writing Across the Curriculum.
