Letter of Intent

The TRDP program announces a request for Letters of Intent from eligible predoctoral and postdoctoral Scholars interested in applying for the TRDP program. Selected applicants will be invited by CTSI-Ed Leadership to complete a full application. Applicants must adhere to LOI submission guidelines and use the online submission form.

For Parts 1 and 2 of the LOI, complete the forms provided, save each as a PDF,  and upload each PDF into the online submission form. For Part 3, type in your responses on the online submission form.

Part 1: Personal statement plus applicant signature

For all predoctoral and postdoctoral Scholars submitting a Letter of Intent to the TRDP Program

Complete the Personal Statement Plus Applicant Signature form and upload it to the online submission form.

Part 2 for Predoctoral Scholars only: Director of Graduate Studies or PhD program director statement 

The DGS or PhD Program Director for all predoctoral Scholars submitting a Letter of Intent to the CTSI TRDP Program:

• Complete the Part 2: Director of Graduate Studies or PhD Program Director statement (predocs) form. 

Scholars, upload the statement completed by the DGS or Program Director to your online submission form.

Part 2 for Postdoctoral Scholars only: Department Chair or Division Director statement 

The Department Chair or Division Director for all postdoctoral scholars submitting a Letter of Intent to the CTSI TRDP Program:

• Complete the Part 2: Department Chair or Division Director statement (postdocs) form. 

Scholars, upload the statement completed by the Department Chair or Division Director to your online submission form.

Part 3 for all scholars:

In addition to the above uploaded documents, applicants will be asked to supply the below information in the online submission form.

• Scholar Name 

• Preferred name

• U of MN x.500 (also called internet ID)

• ORCiD ID

• Student/Employee ID (7-digit number)

• Email address

• Phone number

• Address (street, city, state, zip)

• Highest Earned Degree(s)

• Your UMN degree-granting Graduate Program (predocs) or Department in which you'll be working during the TRDP program (postdocs) 

• Secondary Department (optional)

  • If you are in more than 2 departments, select other and list all departments

• Mentors' home departments: primary, translational

• Primary work site (eg, UMN-Twin Cities, Minneapolis VA, Hennepin Healthcare, etc.)

• Applying for TRDP as: Predoc, postdoc, Dual Degree Student or medical/clinical Fellow, none of above 

• Date of Enrollment in PhD Program (predoctoral students only)

• Date of preliminary oral examination completion (predoctoral students only)

• Estimated date of graduation (predoctoral students only) 

• Date of PhD completion (postdoctoral students only) 

• Name of institution where PhD was granted (postdoctoral students only)

• Proposed Project Title/Research Topic

• Areas of Interest (check all that apply from a list of options)

• Planned Mentoring Team. Provide the following information for each team member:  Name, Faculty rank, Department/Division, School/College

• Primary Mentor information

• Translational Mentor information

• Demographic Information

  • Responses to the demographic questions are for NIH reporting only and will not impact your eligibility for the CTSI T32 program. Please note, you have the option to decline each question.

• Citizenship, Permanent U.S. Resident, or Other
