Participants must correctly evaluate indefinite single variable integrals in the time allotted.
Participants will take turns solving integrals. Each participant will have a minute and a half to evaluate an integral, and unlike in previous years, each contestant will work on a new integral, even if the previous contestant did not correctly solve their integral.
Each participant is allowed one lifeline during the competition. He/she may call timeout and consult with anyone in the audience on relevant integration techniques for 20 seconds before proceeding. The lifeline cannot simply state the answer to a problem. The participant cannot write during this consultation. Lifelines may raise their hands to indicate their willingness to help. A lifeline may not be taken back, and neither the verifiers nor the MC can be called upon as lifelines.
If a participant misses an integral, then he/she is eliminated from the competition.
There may be one or two lightning rounds after the first round, depending on the number of remaining participants. In this case, all remaining contestants will compete head-to-head to see who can correctly evaluate the given integral the fastest. Participants may continue to solve even after a wrong answer.
The 3 remaining participants after 1 to 2 lightning rounds will compete head-to-head on the chalkboard, attempting to solve the same integral. The first person to complete the integral correctly wins. Participants may continue to solve even after a wrong answer.
Prizes will be given to all participants who make it to the final round.
Only solutions are required, no work must be shown. The solution must be circled and clearly indicated. No calculators or other devices are allowed. A '+C' is not required for indefinite integrals.
In the first round, only one attempt at a solution is allowed. You must indicate when you are ready to give your final answer. In the final rounds, multiple attempts at a solution are allowed.
