My name is Aralyn Nunez (she/her) and I'm from Shalimar, Florida near Destin. I'm studying environmental management of agriculture and natural resources at the University of Florida in Gainesville. I love soil and water science and food systems so I am interested in research that explores the intersection of those disciplines for environmental and food-access stewardship. One of my professors told me about this program because of these specific interests! In my free time, I watch lots of movies, go on bike rides, hike, play guitar, and read. I'm very excited to visit farms and see the soil types in Minnesota!

Hey everyone! My name is Chante Hardaway (she/her/hers) and I’m from North Liberty, Iowa. I’m a rising Junior at Michigan State University majoring in Environmental Studies and Sustainability with minors in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems and Leadership of Organizations. On campus at Michigan State I am involved with Delta Phi Epsilon, a professional foreign service sorority, Spartan Food Security Council, and am an Intercultural Aide. Outside of school I enjoy reading, spending time with my dogs and being outside! I’m incredibly interested in looking at the intersection between environmental and human health, specifically though community food systems. I heard about the Minnesota SOAR-REEU through searching online for internship opportunities in sustainable agriculture. I’m most excited about the program long research project that we get to work on during this program as well as meeting other people interested in sustainable agriculture. I can’t wait to further my knowledge through this exciting REEU experience!

Hi everyone! My name is Carah Anteck and I grew up in Clinton County, Ohio. I will be a junior this upcoming fall and I am double majoring in Environmental Science and Agricultural & Natural Resources at Berea College in Kentucky. I am interested in looking at how agriculture will be affected in the context of climate change and how sustainable agricultural practices will become vital to implement in the coming years. I run for the cross country and track teams and enjoy spending time outdoors. In my free time, you can most likely find me outside going camping, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, caving, running, or playing sports. I am also an outdoor adventures trip leader for my college where I help plan and guide outdoor activities for other students. I found out about the SOAR-REEU program through one of my current professors who got her PhD from the University of Minnesota and was a student of Dr. Julie Grossman, one of the SOAR-REEU program directors. I hope to experience working in the field and in a lab, build connections, and learn more about plant pathology in relation to agriculture during this internship.

Hello, my name is Cameron Ghalichi (legally spelled Camron, but I prefer it to be spelled with an e) and I go by he/they pronouns. I am a lifelong Minnesota native who was raised in the Twin Cities area. I am an undergraduate student at Winona State University in Winona, MN. I am majoring in data science with a minor in statistics, and have interdisciplinary experiences from various scientific fields. I am interested in the various applications of data analysis to make inferences about society at large. In my free time I enjoy cooking or baking new recipes, playing video games, practicing music pieces on the piano, or learning a new language (I am currently practicing Korean on Duolingo). I found out about the REEU- SOAR by contacting the CFANS office for an application to a different REU and ended up getting in touch with Dr. Grossman's lab. I was really fascinated by the project description and wanted to know how my skills could apply to agriculture and food systems, and was ecstatic about my acceptance to SOAR. I am excited to learn about the applications of data analysis to ecological systems and how we can ensure a more sustainable ecosystem from our observations.

Greetings! My name is Dharsh Saravana (they/them) and I am from Lutz, Florida. I study Environmental Science & Policy at the University of South Florida with concurrent minors in Mathematics and GIS. I am interested in finding food sovereignty solutions for climate-vulnerable urban populations. In my free time, I save seeds native to the Indian flora to stay connected to my cultural background. I found this program through my mentor and I am curious if there is a difference between what we perceive farmers need to adapt to climate-friendly practices versus what would truly help them feel supported. I am excited to meet the REU cohort!
