Thank you for your interest in the PharmacoNeuroImmunology Training Program. "Training in PharmacoNeuroImmune Substance Abuse Research" (NIH T32 DA007097), also known as PNI Training Program, provides to train biomedical scientist at the pre-doctoral (graduate) and post-doctoral levels. Funded by National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the training program has been existing for more than 39 years and has trained over 300 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows!
We have been funded for 10 predoctoral and 3 postdoctoral slots for each year from 2011 to 2022. We are accepting applications from the predoctoctoral and postdoctoral candidates all year around. Trainees from the underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
The candidates who are sincerely committed to a research career in the field of PharmacoNeuroImmunology Substance Abuse Research, which emphasizes the effects of drug abuse will be eligible for support by the training program. The PNI focuses on the training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in areas that intersect four disciplines: Pharmacology, Psychology/Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Immunology/Microbiology. Commitment of candidates will be reflected by the design of their curriculum and proposed thesis in the case of graduate students and by the candidate's willingness and enthusiasm to develop and enroll in a selection of supplementary courses. Graduate candidates must have earned a bachelor degree and be accepted into the University of Minnesota's Graduate Program, and be interested in interdisciplinary aspects of addiction-related research. Postdoctoral candidates must have a PhD, DVM or MD and be interested in laboratory-based neuroimmune/neurobehavior addiction research. Since this program is a 100% federally funded grant, only US citizens and those foreign nationals who possess a permanent residency visa (green card) may be supported by this training program.
Application materials are accepted throughout the year until all the slots are filled. We have 10 predoctoral and 3 postdoctoral slots each year. Qualified candidates must submit following materials to Program Administrator either via email or mail:
1. PNI Application Form (see "Files" below to download)
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Official transcripts for both undergraduate and graduate course work
4. Three letters of recommendation
Once all the materials have been received by the Program Administrator, our selection committee will review the materials and make decisions based on the candidates' productivity, research goals and experience. This process will take up to 4 weeks.
See "Courses, Seminars" for the program's requirement as a trainee.
