Mission Statement
The goal of the Orthopedic Surgery Interest Group (OSIG) is to provide medical students with opportunities to learn about the field of orthopedic surgery early on in their medical education. Through organizing events, we will assist students in exploring the specialty of orthopedic surgery, creating a network of supportive peers and mentors, and preparing for clinical rotations and residency applications. We will strive to create an inclusive and collaborative environment so that all students feel welcomed and supported as they determine which specialty to pursue.

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah, and I am so excited to serve as this year’s OSIG President! I grew up in Forest Lake, MN, and have been a Gopher through and through—sticking around the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for both undergrad and now med school. During college, I worked as a medical scribe and assistant, and after graduating, I spent a gap year conducting clinical research at the Cleveland Clinic.
Outside of medicine, I’ve been a group fitness instructor since I was 16 (if you ever want to mix up your gym routine, come take a class with me at RecWell!) I also help run my mom’s jewelry store in Maplewood, which is a fun change of pace.
My vision for OSIG this year is to make it the go-to space for anyone curious about ortho. Whether you're just starting to explore the field or already set on it, we’re here to help you gain hands-on experience, build connections, and develop practical skills. From surgical skills nights to sub-specialty panels and mentorship opportunities, we have a packed year ahead to make orthopedics more accessible, engaging, and fun.
Have questions, ideas, or just want to chat? Reach out anytime—I’d love to hear from you. Looking forward to an amazing year!
