The Leadership Lab has hosted a kickoff retreat at Cooks of Crocus Hill for the past two years, where we prepared a meal together under the direction of a professional chef. Along the way, the students got to know one another, learned some food preparation techniques, and had fun. After preparing our meal, we sat down to enjoy our feast and distilled teamwork and leadership principles from this innovative experience.
"In the Leadership Lab's retreat this fall, I enjoyed the hands-on cooking activity at Cooks of Crocus Hill as it was able to help strengthen the bond between us students and build a Carlson Leadership Lab family. Something I got out of this retreat was new friendships and gaining confidence by starting and holding conversations with other students and building a network. I got the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and gain valuable insight into my leadership style while building meaningful relationships. I learned that there are leadership skills that I can incorporate into my own such as bringing in positivity and active listening with others." - Leadership Lab participant
Leadership doesn't happen in a vacuum. Leadership is developed through relationships and experiences. Each semester, the Lab hosts 1-2 events to bring together our community, to learn with and from each other. We often bring local community members to share their leadership journeys and how they enact 'Everyday Moments of Leadership.'
