Your first day of orientation will begin between 7:30-7:45 AM with breakfast. Most of your orientation days will have a later start time. More details will be sent out soon. Our orientation calendar is close to complete, so as soon as we're able to, we will post it here and email you all with the details to allow you to make plans and appointments during June.
What's included in orientation?
2 days of administrative onboarding and information
GME office orientation for residents from all programs, including fit testing
Site-specific orientations for 3 hospital sites and your clinic site
POCUS training
Case day workshop to simulate and practice some patient and family encounters
BLS/ACLS certification (no cost to you)
Site visit to your first rotation site
Welcome picnic for you & your families with chief residents and program leadership
If you need to schedule medical or other important appointments during orientation, please reach out to Heidi at imres@umn.edu as early as possible. There are quite a few days during orientation where you will not be occupied the full day, but each person will have different times available because of individualized schedules. Most orientation activities offer at least some flexibility, and we will do our best to accommodate any scheduling needs.
When will I learn my schedule for the year?
Falon will be reaching out to you all shortly for clinic assignment, schedule, and PTO requests. As soon as she is able to draft a complete schedule from those, she will send them out to everyone, along with a video explanation for how to read and understand your schedule.
We know that you will nonetheless have many questions about them, taking PTO, holidays, accommodating doctors appointments, leaves, and other questions. We will address those questions on the first day of orientation, but if you need any answers more urgently, you may reach out to Falon at imedsched@umn.edu.
