Past GWEs

GWE's from previous years can be found here. You must be logged in with your UMN account to view these exams. The timing of the GWE was changed in 2019 so that the exam is now only offered once a year with slightly easier questions. 

Grad Student Past GWE Solutions

Here is a link to a Google Drive with solutions to the old GWEs written by graduate students. These solutions may not be reflective of what the problem writers wanted to see, but we do not know what is expected since the physics department has not required faculty to release solutions.

Grad Phi Study Sessions

In the spring semester, Grad Phi will host study sessions for the GWE. Check back later for more information about when these will be for the 2027 GWE.

Disability and Resource Center

The DRC handles a variety of accommodations for students and staff with disabilities. If you have a disability that requires testing accommodations, then you can have those accommodations for the GWE. There is no shame in needing accommodations for this exam, and it is very common for students to take it in the DRC when they need it. You can contact the DRC if you believe this is applicable to you.
