EWH Design Competition

ABOUT

The EWH Design Competition invites students from EWH chapters around the world to create innovative medical devices and technology to improve healthcare in the developing world. Learn more here.

We are submitting our ideas to EWH Nationals for a first place prize of $1,000. If our idea is feasible and there is a significant need, our solution will be manufactured for distribution in hospitals around the world.

2023-2024 Designs:

Preston's Design Team

Team 2 is creating a sterilization chamber to prevent surgical site infections. The device will utilize atmospheric plasma and reactive gas species to disable microbes on the surface of surgical instruments. This technology will allow for comparable sterilization efficacy as common methods (e.g. steam & pressure, ethylene oxide gas) while consuming less energy and resources.

Nic's design team

Nic's design team is creating a patient monitor that helps monitor heart rate, temperature, oxygen levels, and if a fall occurs. This device would be good for a low-cost option for vital monitoring during and after surgery. This project involves a lot of electrical design, coding for Arduino's, and coding for a website!
