Wellbeing & Community
The CMP T32 trainees and directors meet with their counterparts from NC State University and the University of Pennsylvania in October 2023 at a joint retreat hosted by NC State University to share their unique research, views, and perspectives.
The creation of a Comparative Medicine and Pathology training program that provides an intentionally accommodating, safe, accessible, and inclusive learning environment for trainees and mentors has been part of the fundamental tenants of this training program since its origination in 2003. The values of encouraging researcher wellbeing and a respectful research community are actively incorporated into our training program through purposeful, meaningful efforts to read, watch, listen, and learn from varying perspectives. As we learn more and know more, we are able to do better. We continually work to engage as part of a community of scholars providing transformative, multimodal training in an environment fostering safety, academic and professional success, and belonging for everyone in our campus community.
We design our training and courses using the principles of accessibility and inclusion:
Integrate various perspectives
Expand access
Foster community
Utilize differentiated instruction
Embrace structured flexibility
Model transparency
Incorporate feedback
We also use the Universal Design for Learning strategies for multimodal, accessible instruction and learning.
The University of Minnesota and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) are strongly committed to fostering a community of students, staff, and faculty that respects and values all members.
The training positions in this program are for graduate veterinarians who either are pursuing doctoral degrees or who already have a doctoral degree but wish to gain additional research experience. This program provides state-of-the-art research training to veterinarians to enable them to become productive independent investigators in the biomedical science arena. Trainees without a PhD degree will pursue a PhD in the CMB or Vet Med graduate program, well-organized, multidisciplinary graduate programs created to focus graduate education efforts by faculty interested in comparative biomedical sciences and the molecular mechanisms responsible for human and animal health and disease.
