Training Program
Prospective Trainees
The Comparative Medicine and Pathology Training Program is accepting applications from veterinarians seeking state-of-the-art research training in an NIH postdoctoral training program. The goal of this program is to provide students with sufficient broad knowledge, quality communication skills, and advanced research training essential for a career as an independent investigator. We have an established 21 year training program with a proven history of trainees who go on to successful careers in academic veterinary medicine.
We have been funded for 6 postdoctoral slots for each year from 2020 to 2028.
Trainees from underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
The University of Minnesota provides an outstanding environment for both research and graduate education. The Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses of the University of Minnesota host a well-developed, multi-faceted set of schools, colleges, and centers devoted to research, education, and outreach in the life sciences. The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is one of the six schools and colleges that comprise the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center (also includes Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health). The University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine is The College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the few veterinary schools that is located in close proximity to a world-class Medical School and School of Public Health. The proximity of the CVM to the Medical School, The College of Biological Sciences, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resources, and the School of Public Health ensures a steady supply of interdisciplinary opportunities for faculty and students to promote "One Health," with the aim to transform discoveries and knowledge into better health for animals, people, and the environment. The research strength of the CVM encompasses emerging zoonotic infectious disease, genomics, comparative and translational medicine, public health, and epidemiology, as well as dairy, swine, and avian medicine. As of May 2018, researchers in the CVM have more than $100 million dollars in active research funding. We are a Carnegie Classification R1 University (very high research activity) with an emphasis on the One Health model.
