Wrap Up
After learning about some of the topics that are of high importance regarding the relationship between the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and Native/Indigenous populations, I hope you think more critically about University relations to the land and to underprivileged people. Use the lessons from this mini-course to inform your future endeavors to account for perspectives that may differ from your own.
This article accounts for more issues than we talked about in this course. Read through it critically, thinking about how each step is an important way for the University to demonstrate its devotion to Native and Indigenous stories, going beyond public appearance. It also offers a deeper history than discussed in this class. Use information from this reading in your assignment this week.
While the article linked here is not specific to the issues specific to Native/Indigenous people, it does provide excellent insight into how to use this course and information to go beyond simple awareness and ally ship. Use the lessons from this class to be an activist, rather than a theatrical ally.
In at least 500 words, discuss what the most impactful topic of this course was for you and what you think should be highest priority for the University to attempt to mediate its relationship with Native and Indigenous people and explain why that might be. This can be expanded to topics not mentioned in this mini-course, such as the other campuses in the UMN system. If you have any, pose some topics you would like to learn more about regarding the relationship examined this semester.
