In order to calculate the total debt of medical students and to calculate your individual loan repayment as we assist you with debt management planning, the Medical School Financial Aid Office needs to determine the amounts and types of loans you have outstanding PRIOR to Medical School. This will assist us in accurately advising and assisting you with your educational finances throughout medical school. Please note: ALL students are required to complete this form, even those who do not have any outstanding educational debt.
Students who do not already have a laptop/tablet for educational purposes may need to purchase one for medical school. If financial aid (student loans) is needed to assist with the out-of-pocket purchase, the maximum computer purchase allowance (permitted one time during your Medical School career) for financial aid adjustment will be $1500. Students requesting financial aid for this purpose must submit documentation for the computer purchase such as a purchase agreement, bill of sale, or store receipt with the student's name on it, along with a simple request/appeal form. The loan for a computer/tablet will be funded with either additional Direct Unsubsidized Loan funding or Direct Graduate PLUS Loan funding and will be offered based on the most favorable loan type you have eligibility to receive.
The Twin Cities / St. Cloud Medical School Financial Aid Office is unable to process loans for computer purchases until the beginning of fall semester. If you are thinking of purchasing a computer or upgrading a current computer using financial aid, please do not purchase the equipment until Friday, August 1 or later. You may not submit the request/appeal form to the Financial Aid Office until Monday, August 18 (first day of Orientation) or later. Look for the Cost of Attendance Appeal 2025-26 form on the One Stop Student Services Forms website (under the “Financial aid and loans” tab). The loan funds would be available after the beginning of fall semester.
