Set Your Degree Name by Updating Your Personal Information
By default, your primary/legal name will print on your diploma. You can add or update a different first or middle name by going to MyU: My Info and entering a "degree name." You are responsible for verifying the name that will appear on your diploma by your graduation date.
Confirm Your Mailing Address
Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address that appears in MyU: My Info. If that address is not entered, your diploma will be mailed to your home address. You can update your personal information.
Check for and Resolve Any Holds
Review your record for any holds and take noted steps to resolve them.
Complete Exit Counseling (If Required for Student Loans)
If you used student loans to fund your degree, you may be prompted to complete exit counseling prior to leaving the University of Minnesota. Questions on this process should be directed to Financial Resolution Services.
May 2027 Graduate Student Ceremony

Carlson hosts one Commencement ceremony each year in May. All Master's students who have graduated or who are expecting to graduate during the academic year (September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027) are eligible to participate in the May 2027 ceremony.
Note: MBA students who will graduate in spring or summer must submit their graduation application no later than March 1 in advance of Commencement to participate in the May ceremony.
Ceremony Registration: Graduating students will receive information from Carlson via email about registering for commencement. Students may also visit the Carlson School commencement website.
Cap and Gown Orders: Students participating in the in-person ceremony are required to secure a Master robe, MBA hood, cap, and tassel. Information on purchasing regalia may be found on the Bookstore website.
Diplomas for graduate degree students will be mailed 4-6 weeks after their degree has been awarded. Please note that the process for awarding degrees begins 1-2 weeks after the conclusion of the graduation month (for Specialty Masters students) and graduation semester (for MBA students) once all grades have been posted.
Students can find more information on diploma shipping, digital diplomas, and more on the One Stop website.
Alumni of the Carlson Master's Programs retain lifetime access to individual career coaching and a number of events in the Carlson Business Career Center.
When you leave the University of Minnesota after graduation your access to University email, technology systems, and services will change. Review how your access will be impacted and recommended next steps.
As a best practice, we recommend backing up any coursework materials or personal documents housed in your UMN Google Drive account in a separate server for future reference.
Alumni who wish to return and take courses after completing their program have ability to apply for a Professional Development status. This is a non-degree status for alumni that allows enrollment in MBA courses for a period of up to two years at the current Part-Time MBA tuition and fees. Interested alumni may contact aaset@umn.edu.
Offical program transcript orders are managed by One Stop Student Services.
