Unable to replicate the built-in spatial tracking sensors of the OTC, we decided to mount the OTC to the patient's hand. The OTC mount must satisfy 3 requirements: it must provide a means for the OTC to be secured to the hand; it must prevent the OTC from sliding relative to the hand throughout the PT sessions; it must minimize added weight/height. The proposed solution is to remodel the OTC battery door by adding a small strap slot to the original battery door design. An adjustable Velcro strap runs through this strap slot and fixate the OTC mount onto the patient's hand.
The limitation of this approach is that the patient has to bear the weight of the OTC, which might be too heavy for those with severe hand restrictions. Future improvement calls for the development of an independent VR spatial tracking system so that we can completely remove the need for OTC
