The Ambassador Program Curriculum is written to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of a 4-H Ambassador, while weaving in all four of the main program components: education & skill-building, service & service-learning, promotion of 4-H and 4-H activities, and inclusion and networking. This page includes helpful information for facilitating the lessons. Click the button below to access the curriculum.
This curriculum supports the Education & Skill-Building component of the Local Ambassador program. To plan your ambassador year, choose at least one lesson from each of the FOUR MAIN categories of the local ambassador curriculum. It is not expected that ambassador programs teach all of the lessons provided in this curriculum.
Each lesson contains an Introduction explaining how the topic connects to being a local ambassador, with a brief description of what the youth will learn and do. The Background section provides information and context of the lesson’s subject. A Getting Ready section explains how the facilitator should prepare for teaching. Lessons begin with a warm-up activity, which serves as both a team-building exercise and an introduction to the topic of the lesson.
The lessons in this curriculum uses the experiential learning model to structure the lessons. The cycle of experiential learning includes experiencing the learning (DO), sharing reactions and observations to process the experience itself (REFLECT), and then connecting the experience to real life (APPLY). Each lesson includes highly interactive activities and embeds reflection throughout the entire learning process. This method provides youth with the greatest understanding and engagement.
