Speech-language therapist (SLT) works with individuals with a wide range of speech, language, feeding, swallowing, voice, fluency and cognitive-communication disorders. Clinical services may be provided individually or in groups depending on each individual’s diagnosis and needs. SLTs may also work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the management of different individuals, which may include medical officers, rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, dieticians and other professionals to optimize the individual’s care.
Communication Management for Adult Population
Communication management for the adult population provides evaluation and treatment for adult patients with speech, language, voice, fluency (e.g: stuttering, stammering and cluttering) and cognitive-communication disorders.
Communication Management for Pediatric Population
Communication management for the pediatric population provides evaluation and treatment for pediatric patients with speech and language difficulties that were referred by the Pediatric Rehabilitation Medical Team.
Swallowing and Feeding
Evaluation and treatment of swallowing and feeding difficulties from newborn to elderly adult population. Services may include:
A. Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing is an instrumental swallowing evaluation for individuals with swallowing difficulties. This service is in collaboration with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT).
B. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (Vitalstim therapy)
Neuromuscular electrical stimulation is an electrical stimulation therapy conducted by SLT for suitable individuals with swallowing difficulties.
