PhD candidate in violi lab speaks at u of m rackham graduate school king talks

Jan. 30, 2020: Chloe Luyet speaks on the role the food industry has played in the overuse and misuse of antibiotics, contributing to overwhelming global bacterial resistance in her talk "How Antibiotics Have Failed Us: The Food Industry's Role in a Global Epidemic". It is the overuse and misuse of antibiotics, and resulting bacterial resistance, that necessitates the BlueSky project and the urgency to discover new methods to combat resistant bacteria.

angela wins 2019 incentives award for embodying michigan engineering's culture of creativity, innovation, and daring (C/I/D)

Each year, 90 incentives awards are given to University of Michigan Engineering faculty who have gone above and beyond to embody the C/I/D culture through their research, teaching, and service to the community. Congratulations, Angela! This award is certainly well-deserved.

ANSYS academic program partner

The Violi lab uses the academic engineering simulation software from ANSYS. Dr. Angela Violi is part of the advisory board. ANSYS software helps students "learn physics principles... researchers to solve complex engineering problems and for postgraduate students to produce data for their master’s theses or doctoral dissertations."

angela presents bluE sky initiative to 8th graders as part of the wolverine pathways program

The Wolverine Pathways Program exposes 8th grade students to various engineering disciplines and real-world challenges . On July 22nd, Angela presented the Blue Sky Initiative in the workshop, entitled "Using really, really small things to solve BIG problems!" to 7th through 12th-graders. Students in attendance lived, primarily, in Detroit or within the boundaries of Southfield Public or Ypsilanti Community school districts. For more information, see the event program.

The PIC 2019 Conference was organized by Dr. Angela Violi and hosted at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in July of 2019. Topics of interest included mobile and stationary sources in urban environments, open fires, indoor air pollution, and halogenated pollutants. The event featured a round table discussion about translating research to public audiences and a career panel.

violi lab group travels international - to tenerife, spain

The Violi lab group participated in the 11th Mediterranean Symposium on Combustion from June 17 - 21, 2019, in Ternerife, Spain. The group had two invited talks, one plenary and one technical. Relevant to this visit is Qi Wang's 2019 paper. For more information on the symposium, visit the symposium website.

NextProf Workshop

The NextProf Workshop is designed to give highly qualified participants the opportunity to explore and prepare for a faculty position in engineering. Prof. Angela Violi was invited to speak at the 2017 NextProf Fall Engineering Workshop.

UROP and SURE

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity and the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering programs allow undergraduates to connect with faculty and get involved with the different research opportunities on campus. Our lab has hosted undergraduate students in the past who have worked on many of our projects ranging from the diffusion of esters to membrane analysis.

Skyline Summer Internship

We work with high school students from Ann Arbor's Skyline High school to foster interest in Molecular Dynamics and engineering. We teach them how we can use MD to model processes such as nanoparticle formation. By introducing them to MD simulations, we hope to encourage more students to enter the computational science and engineering disciplines.
