UMSI Exposition
Monday, April 20, 2026
12:00 - 2:00 PM ET
Michigan League, 911 N. University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109
UMSI annually hosts a poster fair to exhibit the exceptional engaged learning work done by students through their courses, student organizations, co-curricular programs, and independent endeavors. Community partners, alumni, industry representatives, the UMSI community, and friends of UMSI will be in attendance at Exposition.
All students who completed information projects or participated in information-focused engaged learning endeavors such as research, civic or community engagement, or global learning during the 2025-26 academic year are eligible to present at Exposition 2026. Teams must coordinate and only submit one form per project. Students presenting multiple projects must submit a new form for each project.
MADS students who cannot travel to Ann Arbor and residential students studying abroad in the winter term are invited to participate in Exposition from afar by printing a poster with a virtual interaction component. A UMSI staff member will collect remote student posters and prepare them for display at Exposition and the MADS Grads Reception.
Students who are registered to present at the UMSI Exposition must join UMSI's Engaged Learning Office for a poster preparation workshop session. At the session, students will learn more about Exposition as well as how to create an effective poster and engage with guests. Additionally, specific information about awards and judging will be shared.
Exposition Prep Workshops are offered:
Wednesday, March 25 | 12:00 PM | LSCIB 2510
Friday, March 27 | 4:00 PM | Virtual
Tuesday, March 31 | 12:00 PM | UMSI Central 201
Thursday, April 2 | 9:00 AM | Virtual
UMSI is excited to offer an opportunity for students presenting at Exposition, and especially those competing for awards, to learn from designer, creative director, and UMSI intermittent lecturer Julie Cruz . Cruz is facilitating workshops in addition to the UMSI Exposition Poster Preparation Workshop offered by the ELO. These storytelling workshops go in-depth on showing and designing a story and offer a valuable opportunity to develop career skills, such as interviewing techniques and strengthening a portfolio or resume.
Students have two opportunities to work with Cruz: through applying for a space-limited interactive storytelling workshop, or by registering for a storytelilng workshop open to all students.
Friday, April 3 | 1:30 - 5:00 PM | UMSI Central
This selective, interactive workshop will take students through designing an impactful story for their UMSI Exposition poster. Participants will work with their poster teams and learn about storytelling best practices, take part in outlining and reviewing their project story, and think about how to frame the story for an external audience. Tools, templates, and guidance from Cruz will be provided throughout. Additionally, students will discuss visual design examples, sketch and storyboard together, and gain valuable feedback. This is a great opportunity for students new to visual storytelling or those who want to be competitive and confident presenting at Exposition. Students are encouraged to apply with all or part of their teams, or individually.
Wednesday, April 1 | 12:00 - 1:00 PM | LCSIB 4320 or Virtual
This workshop will help prepare student presenters to create engaging posters that tell the story of their project. Participants will learn about storytelling best practices and how to framework for an external audience, as well as view visual design examples and samples for inspiration.
Tuesday, April 21 | 1:00 - 2:00 PM | LCSIB 1125
UMSI is also hosting an Innovation Showcase in conjunction with Exposition. This is an opportunity for UMSI students to demonstrate a new product, service, or innovative idea to an audience which will include UMSI Advisory Board members. Board members include executives, consultants, venture capitalists, directors, and other information industry leaders. Attendees will browse the room, and participating students will display their innovations or prototypes and provide hands-on demonstrations, gaining valuable feedback in the process.
This event will be especially suited to students interested in furthering their entrepreneurial ideas and innovations. Examples of innovations to showcase might include an app prototype, an AR/VR experience, a prototype of an information service for a community, a product demonstration, an archival interaction or dashboard, an interactive data visualization, and other innovations that are student-led and allow for attendee interaction with a screen-based or physical product
