Frankel Cardiovascular Center

Innovation Program

Our Mission

The goal of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center (FCVC) Innovation Program is to foster a culture of innovation through education, funding, and mentorship for FCVC faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and families. By providing these resources, the FCVC aims to empower those within its ecosystem to create new or different systems and products that fundamentally change the existing system.

The FCVC Innovation Program comprises the FCVC Innovation Challenge, the Aikens Innovation Academy, and other workshops and resources to foster innovation.

FCVC Innovation Challenge

The FCVC Innovation Challenge is an annual idea competition open to all FCVC faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and families. Entrants compete for up to $100,000 to test and implement their innovative ideas.

Aikens Innovation Academy

The Aikens Innovation Academy is a program to foster early-stage FCVC innovations, consisting of an educational curriculum, mentorship, and funding. The cornerstone of the Aikens Innovation Academy is a course in which innovators are provided in-depth education on innovation, including communicating value to stakeholders and how to pitch your idea for resources. Following completion of the course, innovators exploring a commercialization path are eligible for additional funding and mentorship to move their ideas forward. Participants in the Aikens Innovation Academy will be well-prepared to compete in the FCVC Innovation Challenge.
