We plan to continue our focus on sustainability by implementing low water usage systems in the bathrooms of our units. The first thing we are going to implement to save water is a dual flush system in all our toilets. This allows the tenant to choose a low water flush for liquid waste or a high water flush for solid waste. We will also implement an ultra-low flush system even for solid waste (1.3 gallons) in order to use the least water possible. We also plan on installing low flow shower heads, which save up to .7 gallons of water a minute. The same thing applies to low flow faucets and can save .6 gallons of water per minute.
We did a lot of research on different water heaters and how we implement them in an energy efficient way. It was clear that we could not do natural gas as it is very not eco-friendly and unsustainable. It was very easy to decide to go tankless because it saves space, lasts longer, prevents leaks, and allows for unlimited hot water. Going the electric tankless water heater option, we are limited to around 8 gallons per minute of hot water, which is more that enough for each unit because of our low flow systems. Having each unit have its own water heater will also help in distribution of water bills and less complaints about lack of hot water.
