We are excited that you are considering joining the 2026-2027 Student-to-Alumni Mentoring Program at the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
The Student-to-Alumni Mentoring Program is a six-month mentoring experience that connects current SPH students with Michigan Public Health alumni for one-on-one academic and professional development support. Mentors and mentees are expected to meet monthly from October through March. Supplemental programming will also be offered throughout the program to help participants build strong mentoring relationships, strengthen networking skills, and stay engaged with the Michigan Public Health community.
The Student-to-Alumni Mentoring Program provides students with structure, guidance, and support as they connect directly with the SPH alumni community.
The program is designed to make alumni connections more accessible and to help students build the relationships, confidence, and professional skills they will use throughout their public health careers. Through monthly conversations and optional programming, students have the opportunity to explore career paths, learn from alumni experiences, and grow their professional networks.
For alumni mentors, the program offers a meaningful way to give back, share professional insight, and support the next generation of public health leaders.
Student mentees are paired one-on-one with an alumni mentor for a series of structured, themed monthly meetings. Meeting guides and suggested discussion topics will be provided to support each conversation.
Participants are expected to:
Attend the program kickoff or review kickoff materials
Meet one-on-one with their mentor or mentee once per month from October through March
Communicate regularly and respectfully with their match
Use the monthly meeting themes or agendas to guide conversations
Participate in optional supplemental programming when possible
In addition to one-on-one mentoring, students will have opportunities to practice networking skills and connect more broadly with participating alumni.
