Announcements

Globally, 35.5 million children – or 1 in 66 girls and boys - are living outside their country of birth. Millions are displaced from home due to conflict, violence and disaster. These vulnerable children are often overlooked in data collection, hidden behind the stocks and flows of migrants, refugees or internally displaced persons. This ‘invisibility’ can further exacerbate their vulnerability.

This 90-minute high-level dialogue will address the urgent need to strengthen data systems and statistics on migrant and displaced children.

Confirmed high-level speakers and panelists include:

  • Mariana Kotzeva, Director-General, Eurostat

  • Muzoon Almellehan, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2017

  • Ian Diamond, Chief Statistician, United Kingdom

  • Felipe González Morales, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants

  • Cecilia Jimenez-Damary, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons

  • Juan Daniel Oviedo Arango, Director General, Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE), Colombia

Please become a part of this important discussion on the data challenges that impact children on the move and find out the latest data illuminating the scale and scope of their movement in the inaugural report - Data InSight #1.

Racism is not unique to the U.S. It's prevalent across the world, especially in places that have a history of white settler colonialism and places that are continuing to experience colonization in various forms.

What global education has done to perpetuate the systems of oppression, colonization (yes it still exists), colorism, and racism that have been so prevalent in our field?

What must we, as international educators, do to be anti-racist and anti-colonialists in our field, both as individuals and as a collective community?

We must ask ourselves these questions and reflect on the professional decisions that we make every day. There is only either-or, and there is no in-between.

If you identify as an international person working in higher education or if you are an international educator regardless of where you are, I invite you to join our "𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: 𝑫𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒖𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊-𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔", this Thursday at 11 a.m. PST/2 p.m. EST/18:00 GMT. This will provide a space for us to come together to dialogue and actively reflect on how we can engage in anti-racist works and actions in higher education and global education.
