Science Writer and Project Manager
Originally from Montreal, Maggie completed her Ph.D. at McGill University studying synaptic plasticity underlying memory in the mollusk Aplysia californica. She pursued postdoctoral studies at Boston University with a focus on relapse prevention in addiction before joining the Rosenzweig lab in 2019 as a Scientific Writer. Maggie enjoys learning about lab members’ projects as she helps with manuscripts, grants and protocols. Outside the lab, she likes finding fun activities to do with her 2-year-old daughter.

Jiaqi He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow working in the Rosenzweig lab at the University of Michigan. She studied in Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from September 2020 to June 2023 and earned her doctoral degree in medicine. Her graduate work focused primarily on autophagy regulating cardiac fibrosis in heart failure. Her current research projects in the lab focus on elucidating the mechanisms on physiological and pathological cardiac hypertrophy, as well as exploring the interactions between the heart and brain following heart failure. Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, watching movies, and traveling, with a deep appreciation for beautiful landscapes and wonderful experiences.
Graduate Student: MD/Ph.D.
Shengyuan Huang joined Dr. Rosenzweig’s lab on March 7, 2023. He comes from China and is enrolled in a MD/PhD program. His research interest is heart regeneration.
Research Lab Manager
Dr. Lovett joined the Rosenzweig Lab in February as a Research Lab manager. She graduated from Cornell University, where she majored in anthropology and ecology, and received her Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, investigating calcium-mediated parasite signaling during cellular invasion by Toxoplasma gondii. Dr. Lovett has been employed in a variety of roles, including positions at the University in the Department of Anthropology studying loss of imprinting in placentally-expressed genes, and the Department of Urology, where she worked on the development of liquid biopsy assays for prostate cancer. Dr. Lovett is committed to fostering not only high-quality research, but a supportive environment where the talents of her peers can shine. When not in the lab, she can be found attempting to balance exercise with her fondness for dark chocolate and flaky pastries.

Meixi Quan joined the Rosenzweig lab in September 2023 as a postdoctoral research fellow. She earned her Ph.D. from Tianjin Medical University focused on the function impact of mechanical shear force in inflammatory cardiovascular diseases to explore potential therapeutic targets. Her current research projects focus on investigating the physiological and pathological hypertrophy to explore the underlying mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases contribute to clinical diagnosis. In her free time, she enjoys reading, travelling, and playing basketball with her friends.
Research Lab Specialist
Li Shang is a research lab specialist in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and a master’s degree in pharmacology. Throughout her career in biomedical research, Li has developed a diverse skill set that enables her to contribute effectively to her research projects. She also has published peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals. Li Shang joined Dr. Rosenzweig’s lab in August 2023. Her current research interest/focus is to investigate how exercise protects against cardiovascular disease.
Research Lab Technician
Danielle is a Laboratory Assistant in the Rosenzweig Lab, specifically helping with the exercise experiments. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2019, with a major in Biomolecular Science, and plans to attend medical school. When not working in the lab, she enjoys playing video games and feeding giraffes at her local zoo.

Dr. Zhang is a postdoc fellow in Institute for Heart and Brain Health at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Rosenzweig's lab in July 2024, Dr. Zhang was an experienced cardiologist at top cardiovascular center in China. From 2014 to 2020, He received his master's degree in biochemistry and molecular Biology and M.D./Ph.D. in cardiology from Peking Union Medical College. Afterwards, he completed his internship and residency at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University (2023). Recent study progressively unraveled the critical role of vasculature as a gatekeeper of life-span and health-span. To this sense, the main interests of Dr. Zhang focus on pan-vascular aging research and providing a paradigm targeting circulating proteome for delaying/inhibiting cardiovascular aging and its related diseases.

Zixun Yuan has been a member of Rosenzweig's lab since September 2023. He pursued his studies at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, from 2019 to 2023, where he completed his Ph.D. degree. Following this, he relocated to the United States to undertake a postdoctoral fellowship. His research focuses on the progression of cardiomyopathies and underlying mechanisms, employing both wet lab and computational (dry lab) approaches.

Dr. Chao Wu is a committed postdoctoral fellow at the Rosenzweig Lab, and a clinical physician specializing in cardiology. Since joining the team in 2023, he has played a pivotal role in exploring the dynamics of heart and brain interaction, the functional mechanisms of exercise, and the regulation of coronary microcirculation. His work, deeply rooted in a profound background developed at Peking University (Ph.D.) and further nurtured at the Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute (during his clinical postdoctoral training in Cardiology), remains focused on meaningful and translational studies. This academic journey has been marked by the prestigious recognition of the China Postdoctoral Funding Award. Chao integrates his passion for research with a healthy lifestyle. Away from the lab, you'd probably catch him swinging a tennis racket, conquering mountain trails, or enjoying a good run – with the ultimate dream of weaving these energetic threads into his research fabric. He is on a mission to conduct studies that not only tickle the intellect but also resonate with real-world implications, adding a dash of excitement to the profound world of science.
