In the Fall 2024 semester, QuantUM hosted a quantum computing hackathon as an official sponsored event in IBM’s Qiskit Fall Fest. 50 participants from more than a dozen majors competed to complete introductory challenge modules and build advanced quantum projects, diving deep into the fundamental building blocks of quantum computation and applying those skills to create real, useful programs. Winning teams were awarded gift cards and Qiskit swag, and all participants had the opportunity to enter raffles for merch and gift certificates from our sponsors, including Michigan departments and local businesses.
The hackathon provided an amazing opportunity for students of all backgrounds, even those with no prior experience in the field, to gain hands-on experience with quantum programming. It also gave students a broader overview of the quantum world, including a presentation from an IBM Quantum employee on the future of quantum technology. The event received coverage from the Michigan CSE department, highlighting the achievements of its participants.
