Did one of your elementary, middle, or high school teachers ever hand out a sheet of paper on the first day of school with ten, maybe twenty things you are supposed to do silently?
The first line of the page says in BIG BOLD LETTERS to read the whole page carefully before you do anything else. The items on the list get crazier and crazier: write your name on the board, pat your head while rubbing your tummy, sing Happy Birthday while waving your hands like a chicken... until you get to the bottom of the page where the last item says to ignore all the items on the list and simply sign you name at the top and sit back and watch!
Maybe teachers don't do that any more. It can be pretty embarrassing to be caught not following directions -- even if almost everyone else in the room doesn't follow them either.
Let that be a cautionary tale. We don't want you to learn anything the hard/embarrassing way. The Getting Started instructions below are important. READ THE ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

To get started with Qualtrics for U-M, go to https://umich.qualtrics.com
If you've already created an account at qualtrics.com, you are in the wrong place. The free account you create at qualtrics.com won't give you the advanced features that you're entitled to as a umich user. Be sure you're in U-M Qualtrics-land before creating anything.
You know you're in the right place (umich.qualtrics.com) when you're prompted to login at the familiar U-M Login page. The first time you enter U-M Qualtrics environment, you will be prompted to share your U-M identity data with Qualtrics. You need to say yes to successfully login.
If you are working on a project with an advisor from the Med School, you may need to work in the UMHS Qulatrics environment. It's even more secure and more restrictive. The login URL is different, but everything else will look and behave the same.
What happens after you login depends on a number of variables: have you logged in before?, have you already been added as a collaborator to a survey?, what new and exciting feature is Qualtrics promoting this week?, how does their "New User Wizard" work these days? Instead of trying to tell you exactly what to expect, we'll tell you some important things about the "Projects" landing page:
It should list all the "Projects" you have created and those that have been shared with you.
Projects = Surveys
Your Project page may or may not default to showing Folders. "All Projects" and "Shared With Me" are standard folders. You can create other folders to help you organize projects, but any other folders you create are for your own personal organization. Collaborators will not see your folders, and you can't share folders with others.
The "Help" link is at the top-right. Qualtrics maintains excellent documentation and U-M is contracted to include live support. If you have a question about how things are supposed to work, search their Help documents first.
Qualtrics' Projects Basic Overview support document might be a useful resource as you get started.
Once you've successfully logged in to the U-M Qualtrics environment and you feel comfortable with the layout of the (likely empty) Projects Page, you're ready to learn how to use Qualtrics by building two practice surveys.
