Advanced Training

To achieve a culture of excellence in education, training the next generation of aortic specialists, this program supports two fellowships in the following areas of the University of Michigan Medical School  


The University of Michigan offers a one-year Advanced Aortic Fellowship under the direction of Bo Yang, MD, PhD that follows completion of either an integrated thoracic surgery residency or independent cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. This fellowship delivers specialized training in advanced aortic, aortic valve, TAVR, and endovascular surgery. Our Vascular Medicine Fellowship training draws from strengths in a broad array of disciplines including:

In addition to clinical training, fellows have the opportunity to become actively involved in any number of research projects, ranging from basic and translational sciences to clinical and health services projects.
