How to Navigate the Online Application
The International Institute Student Fellowship Application is run through SurveyMonkey Apply and is managed by staff with the International Institute Fellowships & Grants Unit.
For questions related to your online application or for tech support, we ask that you please contact II Administration Support via email at ii-applicationsupport@umich.edu.
You do not need to complete the application in one sitting. You may log-in and change or update any information or uploaded documents previously entered into your application at a later date if you choose.
1. Select Award(s)
Section 1 of the application asks that you select the award(s) to which you are applying. If you are eligible to apply to multiple awards, you must select the awards to which you are applying. You must verify your eligibility for the fellowships you select before applying.
2. Applicant Information
Section 2 asks you to provide basic biographical and academic information. It is recommended to select SAVE & CONTINUE EDITING at the bottom of the page before going on to the next part of the application.

4. Project Expense Information
Prior to completing this section of the application, you should review the handout on how to complete the project expense sheet, then download and complete the Project Expense Sheet.
5. Upload Statement of Purpose
Before you upload your statement, you should review the Application Components page of the IISF Resource Page.

7. Upload Letter of Invitation / Description of In-country Resources
This section of the application asks internship applicants to provide a letter or email from the host organization describing the organization, the specific work, and the financial terms of the internship. Research applicants are asked to submit a letter of invitation from a host institution, university, or organization acknowledging and supporting your plans or offering research oversight. Review the handout made available on the IISF Resource Page for more information.
8. Register Your Recommender
This section asks you to enter information about the person who will be completing the recommendation on your behalf. Note: this task only collects information about your recommender in order for us to track recommenders.
9. Request a Recommendation
The Letter of Recommendation should come from a U-M faculty, staff member, or advisor. Doctoral students should have the letter submitted by the principal advisor.
10. Upload a Resume or C.V.
A brief resume or C.V. should be uploaded as a .doc or PDF file.
11. Upload U-M Transcript
Should be uploaded as a PDF file.
