Eligibility

Basic Criteria

Applicants must be a UM-Ann Arbor student, regardless of citizenship, enrolled in a degree program, and must return to campus after completing the project for at least one term prior to graduation.

Projects cannot begin before May 1, 2021.

2021 update: it is intended that IISF projects take place outside of the U.S. and U.S. territories, however, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, certain (but not all) awards may allow for projects to be partly/wholly virtually conducted. Further information about virtual projects is available on each award's information page.

Additional Eligibility Information

  • Applicants must meet all requirements of the University International Travel Policy, and, if applicable, the Institutional Review Board. Applicants are responsible for compliance and must verify eligibility prior to travel.

  • Applicants should be aware that U-M Travel Warnings/Restrictions may affect eligibility for an award. Please see the “COVID-19 and Travel” section for Frequently Asked Questions and the Resumption of U-M Travel chart to learn when U-M Related Travel can resume.   • Funding is for individuals and may not be used for support of student groups or organizations.

  • Funding is not provided for service learning or study abroad*.

  • Funding for all awards is not guaranteed and is dependent on the competitiveness of your application and availability of funding.
