Vianey is a PhD student in the School for Environment and Sustainability. Her interdisciplinary approach is to combine socio-economic, hydrologic modeling, and a legal/political analysis in order to uncover holistic solutions. An important component of her research is the continued interaction with communities of the Texas-Mexico border and the co-production of knowledge.
Sam Schurkamp studies Great Lakes coastal wetlands through the lenses of environmental restoration and invasion ecology. His work looks at improving the monitoring of rare species, understanding the effects of climate change and water levels on plant communities, and synthesizing wild rice/manoomin knowledge across knowledge paradigms. In addition to his research interests, Sam is interested in science writing and photography to promote ecological knowledge to a broader audience.
Belinda Saint Louis is a Geophysics Master's student within the School of Sustainability at Stanford University where she studied water processes with a modeling aspect. She explores the effects of harmful algal blooms (HABs) on Lake Erie through a modeling lens.
Trece Bye is a masters student in the School for Environment and Sustainability focusing on Environmental Policy and Planning. Her research focuses on furthering the work to include meteorological drivers in Great Lakes water level forecasting at the sub-seasonal to annual scale.
Trece hopes that bringing environmental scientists into the political sphere will create a stronger political system to fight climate change and environmental justice problems. She hopes to work both in the federal sector as well as become a professor teaching this interdisciplinary approach.
Annie is a Master's student at SEAS pursuing a degree with concentrations in Ecosystem Science and Management and Sustainable Systems. She is currently researching the impact of water level fluctuations on Wild Rice (Manoomin) in the Great Lakes Region with the Global Center for Climate Change Impacts on Transboundary Waters.
Annie's passion lies in better understanding the effects of Climate Change upon water resources in the Great Lakes and hopes to continue this work in Michigan after graduation.
Anna is a graduate student in the College of Engineering with a focus in EcoHydology. She is currently working on the Mono Lake Project, which explores the effects of climate change and freshwater diversions from a unique critical lake. Anna has been working for the Army Corps of Engineers in the Detroit District as a student trainee and will start in their Recent Graduate Program this summer.
