RESEARCH FELLOW - 186668

Job Summary:

A unique postdoctoral scientist opportunity is available within the Department of Pharmacology, at the University of Michigan Medical School. This dually mentored position will operate at the interface of basic science in G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling and translational hematology. Preferred candidates should have the knowledge or prior training in biochemistry, pharmacology, cell or molecular biology and have the desire for a truly multidisciplinary experience. It is expected that the postdoctoral scientist will perform the following activities semi-independently under the supervision of the principal investigators of both laboratories; conduct research, apply for postdoctoral fellowships, present results at national and international scientific meetings, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. or M.D. with an emphasis on graduate-level biomedical research. Graduate-level experiences relevant to the position are required, but the previous postdoctoral experience is unnecessary. A strong record of past publication in primary research journals is required. Evidence of presentation(s) at national/international meetings and evidence of application for or awarding of pre-doctoral fellowship awards is a strong plus.

RESEARCH FELLOW - 186370

Job Summary:

A position is available for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the field of Adhesion-GPCR and/or G-Protein Signaling.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Biochemistry. Relevant graduate-level experience in GPCR/G protein signaling is required, but previous postdoctoral experience is unnecessary. A previous record of publication in high-profile journals is required. Extensive biochemical and cell biological experience is required in purifying recombinant proteins, performing GPCR/G protein enzymatic analyses, measuring GPCR/G protein effector readouts in cell-based assays, and drug/ligand screening against drug targets. Expertise in eukaryotic cell culture, molecular biology, and the willingness to work with low amounts of radioisotope chemicals are also required.

RESEARCH LAB TECHNICIAN SENIOR - 186358

Job Summary:

A position is available for a Research Laboratory Technician Senior in the Department of Pharmacology. The successful candidate will be expected to work under the supervision of the laboratory PI and laboratory manager and in conjunction with other lab personnel (graduate students/postdoctoral fellow). The primary responsibilities will be to prepare laboratory reagents and solutions, wash laboratory glassware, perform sterilizations, maintain laboratory supplies/stocks, and conduct some supply purchase requests. The position will grow to include some supervised molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemical work with DNA, proteins, and cultured cells.

Required Qualifications:

B.A. or B.S. degree in an appropriate discipline such as a biological science or chemistry. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a research lab is required. Molecular and/or biology experience required. Willingness to work with laboratory animals (mice) is essential. Ability to carry out careful experiments and to keep neat, complete, up to date records and carry out key routine tasks on time without reminders is essential. Requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations, for example in making solutions and dilutions. Must be able to speak and understand English well, and to follow oral and written instructions exactly.

Ability to work safely, to use common sense, and to exchange information and interact regularly with other laboratory personnel and departmental members. The position may entail prolonged periods of standing or sitting and some lifting. Daily interaction with PI and/or with laboratory manager and laboratory members in directing experiments and occasional contact with administrative staff. Training in and the certification to work with animals and low levels of radioisotopes will be provided and required after the start of employment.
