I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology at
the University of Michigan Medical Center. My primary research interests focus on G protein signaling and new classes of enzymes that activate heterotrimeric G proteins apart from GPCR-initiated activation. The effort in my lab has elucidated the biochemical function of a newly discovered G protein activator, Ric-8A, and how it activates G protein alpha subunits by serving as a guanine nucleotide exchange catalyst. Another focus of our research group is to investigate the physiological roles that Ric-8 proteins have in directing non-traditional G protein signaling pathways in the cell.
