The Team

Dr. Daniel R. Goldstein - Principal Investigator

Daniel R. Goldstein obtained his medical degree from St. George’s, University of London, UK.  He undertook a medical residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, USA and his cardiovascular disease, heart failure and transplantation training at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB).  At UAB he was a postdoctoral fellow studying transplantation immunology.  Until April 2016 his entire faculty career has been at the Yale School of Medicine, New Haven CT, USA.

On April 1, 2016 he moved to the University of Michigan to direct a basic science center on cardiovascular aging (Michigan Biology of Cardiovascular Aging, MBOCA).  His research interests include how inflammation impacts organ transplantation and how aging impacts acute and chronic inflammation.  He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation, an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association, a Paul Beeson Scholar in Aging Research, a recipient of an Academic Leadership Award from the National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Health, and a recipient of an Outstanding Investigator R35 award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.  From  2021-2023, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation www.JHLTonline.org, the journal of the www.ishlt.org.

Sherri Wood - Lab Manager

After completing a BA from UC San Diego and a BS from University of Utah, Sherri worked as a lab manager at University of Utah and for the Department of Surgery at University of Michigan before joining the Goldstein Lab.  Sherri's research interest lies in immunology, particularly in the area of transplantation.  Besides maintaining the daily functioning of the lab and assisting with research studies, she is also involved in a Taubman Institute Innovation Project, Immune Precision in Solid Organ Transplantation (ImPrec).

Adrian Luna - Postdoctoral Fellow

Adrian complete his undergraduate at Texas A&M in 2014 where he received a B.S. in Biochemistry and Genetics.  After completing his undergraduate, Adrian attended the Biomedical Science Graduate Program at the University of New Mexico. During his graduate studies, Adrian focused on elucidating the molecular mechanism that regulates the gene expression of Human papillomaviruses. In December 2021, Adrian completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with a focus on infectious disease and inflammation. Adrian's research interest lies in investigating the molecular mechanisms that underlie pathologies of diseases to discover new therapeutic targets. Moving forward, in the Goldstein Lab, he will explore how senescent cells impact the immune response to respiratory infections. Adrian plans to become a professional investigator and would like to manage his own research group in the future.

Kathleen Wragg - Research Lab Specialist

Kathleen obtained her Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia in 2014. Following this, she completed a research-based Honours year aimed to identify and characterise novel inhibitors of an enzyme implicated in various aspects of tumour progression. In 2017, she joined the University of Melbourne at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity as a Research Assistant, where she was involved in a diverse range of projects to understand and functionally characterise conventional and nonconventional T cells in states of acute and chronic infection. Having joined the Goldstein lab as Research Associate in the Fall of 2021, Kathleen hopes to investigate the role of  mitophagy in organ transplantation and influenza infection.
