As graduate students, postdocs, and professionals we strive to balance our calling to be a community of Christian disciples with our calling to reach out to our campus. We aim to encourage one another in our mutual journeys of faith, to grapple seriously with current intellectual and social issues from a Christian perspective, and to engage the University of Michigan with Jesus Christ. To that end, we have the following objectives:
GCF at UM is committed to the ongoing development of faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Through the disciplines of Bible study, prayer, and worship, we seek to become more Christ-like in all areas of our lives. With large group speakers, retreats, and training opportunities, we strive to meet members wherever they are in their spiritual journeys and to challenge them to continually grow and develop their faith.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord of our whole lives, personally and publicly. As Christian graduate students, postdocs, and professionals, Christ calls us both to excellence in scholarship/career and to unwavering obedience to the Word. GCF is committed to affirming the Christian worldview at the University of Michigan by presenting Christian thought in ways that are meaningful to our colleagues and by supporting each other as we live out our faith in our culture.
Our primary mission field is the University of Michigan. We believe that God cares about the institution and the people who study and work here. Because we feel that the best way to reach out is through one-on-one relationships, we put emphasis on training and encouraging individuals to reach out to non-Christian friends and colleagues. In addition, we organize regular service opportunities for GCF members to help those in need in our community.
As graduate students, postdocs, and professionals, we are called to live out Christ's love as a community of believers. We desire to be a group that has genuine love for one another. Through our Bible studies, prayer meetings, large group events, and social gatherings, we develop the friendships that support and encourage us throughout our time at the University of Michigan and beyond.
